Amy was born and raised in Oberlin, Ohio-a small town of 8,000 which is also the home of Oberlin College. Famous for its conservatory of music as well as it’s history, Oberlin provided a culturally rich environment and a unique exposure to all kinds of world class music, theater, dance and art.

As a child she listened to Peter, Paul and Mary as well as her older brother’s Doors, Chicago and Jimi Hendrix albums. Though her focus in high school was athletics she was also active in the choir. Her choir teacher was an African American gospel musician who exposed her to a wonderful assortment of gospel, soul, blues, jazz and classical music. When most of the other school choirs were singing Carpenter’s pop songs, her choir was singing Billy Holiday. The popular radio station was CKLW out of Detroit, Michigan so she grew up listening to a lot of Motown. At the age of 14 she began teaching herself to play the guitar and was influenced by such artists as Joni Mitchell, Cat Stevens, Joan Baez and Bonnie Raitt. From funk to folk Amy’s musical influences are quite diverse.

At the age of 19 she moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and began playing in the local coffee houses. She later traveled to France and Italy and played as a street musician. When she returned she put her musical career into gear.

In the early 90’s she was signed by local producer and owner of The Plant Recording Studio’s (Sausalito, CA) Arne Frager and his production company Moltoforte Music. A team of seasoned professional musicians was assembled with an eye towards a major label record contract. Her first live performance with her new band was at the prestigious “BMI New Music Showcase” in San Francisco. She received the best review of the evening but, alas, did not become rich and famous, (the next year the Counting Crows played at that showcase). Amy has continued to perform and record with her band and as a solo artist.

After releasing her 3rd album “Landing” Amy took a break to raise her new baby boy. The break gave Amy some time to explore the possible avenues that would allow her to juggle raising a child and continue her music.

That door opened recently with children’s music. It all began a couple years ago when Amy played at her son’s preschool. For more information on Amy’s Children’s music please visit children’s music.
